This utility was written to overcome the loss of functionality caused by a
Microsoft security patch to Internet Explorer which disables the passing of
usernames and passwords on URLs. Nearly every other browser will allow you to do:
Using the above syntax would allow you to log into secure web sites that would normally prompt you for a user name and password when you log in without being prompted each time you access the page. Every router I have ever encountered prompts you the very same way. Once the MS04-004 Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (832894) has been installed, network administrators can no longer use the above syntax, using Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer, to log into routers or other secure web sites. Using the Automatic Router Login Utility The first time the utility is run, you will be prompted for the IP address of the router, the user name and the password. Once you have entered these items, they are stored in a specially encrypted database file. On subsequent executions of the utility you will not be asked for this information (unless you delete the data file). To log into the router specified by the IP address, simply click on the Router Login button and you will be presented with the main page for the router configuration. |
